i have a uniden bearcat BCD996XT that has been operating full time as a base station at my home since 2013. uniden has upgraded the xt to the p2 which is explained in the link below. I have had ZERO issues with my BCD996XT and it is a very powerful mid-priced scanner IMHO. I expect the P2 is even better. I have used it a couple times in my RV and it worked fine there also. if money is an issue you might want to find an older XT model at a firesale price.
