Yes I used a tripod where I modified the head with cups, and cones (bearings, and races) from a D-6 Cat dozer. The slightest breeze, and just me breathing makes the camera move at that distance. Heavy to carry up there, but I feel it works better then the expensive hydraulic head tripods. Also I'm the furthest thing from being a professional photographer.
