Just some minor additional information ... for folks who've seen Steve Douglass's photos of the flying "wedge" over Amarillo, note that he shot them with a 300mm lens (as did Dean).

So with this new Nikon, you would take Steve's existing pictures of the wedge ... and imagine them with up to ten times the magnification.

There would be atmospheric issues to contend with to be sure ... but having that option to get up to 10 times "closer" could (would?) result in many more options in terms of making out many more details on an aircraft even if it's flying at 30,000 ft.
