Yes, I was totally unprepared to bring trash back with me, and there was quite a bit, mostly water bottles. I didn't see any wildlife but did see a few tracks. I doubt they roam in the heat of the day but ya never know. I had a knife and that was it. I thought the same thing as you. Was really more worried about somebody stealing my truck or my pack.
