According to historic satellite imagery construction of the new Yucca Air Strip started in 2002. It was not paved until 2005. A major expansion with new hangars followed in late 2006/early 2007. It is believed that the air strip was used by Lockheed for development and evaluation of the P-175 Polecat and/or RQ-170 Sentinel projects. Essentially it is a mini-Area 51 for UAVs. I believe that it is also used by small executive type jets transporting VIPs to and from the nearby counter terrorism training facility in the former DAF (Device Assembly Facility). The air strip is clearly visible in the distance from Mercury Hwy north of CP-1 during public Test Site Tours. The guide talks at great length about the old Yucca air strip, but does not even mention the new air strip.
