I've heard the bit about the B-2's control surfaces being locked when the crew really, absolutely positively, wants stealthiness. But I'm skeptical. I'd like to see more info on this. I know something about how much the signature changes on other LO airframes--not the B-2, but others--when control surfaces move, and I know something about threat capabilities, and it doesn't make sense. The gain in signature reduction is small, and the threat is well-managed without this scheme. But, I could be way off. No direct knowledge of the B-2.
