Having lived through a number of "fusion breakthrough announced" events, I strongly suggest a few deep breaths. I very much hope that this will lead to commercial fusion power in short order. But I'd hardly be shocked if it doesn't. I remember being in college during the "cold fusion" brouhaha, when we were assured that Professors Stanley and Pons had right on the money and cold fusion would be powering our homes in less than a year.

The most arrogant know-it-all engineering student in our dorm assured us that the whole thing would fall apart in a few weeks. "They're counting radon decay" he said. Sumbitch turned out to be right.
