Indeed. There are any number of "issues" with the shape & arrangement of bith the PAK-50 and the J-20. In addition to the ones you mention, the biggest problem is likely the straight-to-the-compressor-blades view provided by the engine inlet ducts. There are ways to deal with this, but I don't know where the Russian & Chinese engineers are with respect to materials & diffuser shapes. I'm sure the appropriate people on this side have pretty good visibility into what their capabilities are.
