It's true that the shape of a "black" aircraft is sometimes represented on a project or unit emblem. Examples include HAVE BLUE (the aircraft's nose and test boom), Bird of Prey (basic planform as the hilt of a sword), and F-117A (planform shape reflected in the shape of the Scorpion 4 patch as a truncated diamond).
On the other hand, many patches simply include a generic shape to represent advanced or futuristic aircraft. This generic shape is usually some form of sharply swept triangle. When rendered in 3-D, it tends to have a diamond-shaped cross-section. Examples can be found on patches from Edwards Test Ops, 412 Test Wing, 6520th Test Group, 412TW Instrumentation Division, AFOTEC, 781st Test Squadron, AFFTC, SAF/AQP Special Programs, 412TW Electronic Warfare Directorate, Air Combat Command Advanced programs, and numerous others.
