Wouldn't it be far simpler, and far more cost effective to design some sort of covering for an above ground runway than to deal with the expense of a tunnel not to mention all of the inherent risks and difficulties you've already discussed here?

I know secrecy is neccessary...but I still believe, even when it comes to secrecy...the accountants still have a say.

Seems to me an underground runway would be far too expensive for whatever gain it may offer.
And frankly, I can't think of any situation where there would be any gain to be had.

Just my two cents.
