Y'know, I'd like to think that Northrop Grumman's interested because it wants to create all sorts of fantastic, exotic, high-performance aircraf, or that incorporating the know-how of a design bureau that's created a civilian aircraft that can reach the "high ground" of the upper atmosphere would push high-altitude UAV spyplanes to an even higher echelon...but space tourism is going to be an extremely profitable enterprise when it eventually becomes something more than the realm of multi-millionaires booking the first Virgin Galactic flights. Northrop Grumman becomes the majority owner of a very forward-thinking design bureau, which is impressive, but I think the lure of the space tourism buck is just as important, if not more important, than having Burt Rutan on a retainer.
