I recall that many years ago some frat-brats (Skull and Bones) from Yale University went out near the border for some fun. They decided that spending some defense money of their own would be a kick. So, they attached an entire roll of aluminum foil to a helium (weather) balloon and released it. The prevailing winds apparently took the "target" toward the Watertown airspce. It wasn't long before the airshow began. They where buzzed by an undesignated aircraft attempting to inercept the "unknown" radar return. From what I understand, of this vague story, they got the heck out of there quickly. Don't recall the exact year. But, I think it was the original "Desert Rat" that told me the story.
