Well... I'd think of it this way: what would the reaction be if it was a "whopping great triangular" black spot in the sky, instead of something that (with lights) is pretty easily identified as intentionally there and man-made, albeit strange. My guess is that if they had left it stealth-ish, all of the world would identify it as impending UFO invasion as soon as someone sighted on and manged to get it on film-- something that is considerably easier for UFO types to do when the objects they're looking for actually exist. Just a guess, perhaps less educated than others but it sure makes sense to me!
