One of the points of this guy's story was that we purposely DID make the effort and expense to make a show of studying Belenko's MiG, just to conceal from the Russians that we already had two examples. According to the story, we were concerned that if we didn't make a big deal of Belenko's defection, the Russians would be suspicious.

Again, that's just the story.
