On 13 November 2006 the Secretary of the Air Force formally declassified CONSTANT PEG, a program that was conducted for two decades at Tonopah Test Range, Nevada. Until its cancellation in 1988, due to budget cuts, CONSTANT PEG provided tactical evaluation and realistic air combat training with numerous Soviet aircraft including the MiG-17, MiG-21 and MiG-23. The airplanes were flown by the 4477th Test & Evaluation Squadron "Red Eagles."
