The drop we saw was from a C130. A jump from a helicopter seems unusual, but I guess there are situations where the chopper can't land.

One of the recent Afghanistan helicopter crashes occurred where a Chinook had a landing zone so small that only half the chopper could touch the ground. The remain part of the aircraft had to hang over a cliff.
