The workers currently just call it "the Test Site" or simply "the Site." Old timers refer to it as "the Area" or "the Ranch." It was called Watertown in official documents and press releases from the 1950s. After that it was called Area 51 until the late 1970s when the Air Force took over (Detachment 3, Air Force Flight Test Center). It is legally listed as Watertown, a member of Alamo Township in Linclon County, Nevada.
