The problem with seeing points of light at night is that there are few if any references to accurately judge distance by. If it was at high altitude covering several degrees of arc in a few seconds it could mean it’s moving extremely fast. If it was a plane (and because of angle or electrical malfunction you saw only one nav light) traveling the same arc but only a few thousand feet away it might not be going that fast. Or if some Bozo stuck a red LED on a RC model plane it could be only a few yards away and still cover the same angle. Again at night it can be difficult to judge accurately at night.
