Ask me a question on sports, American Idol, or pop culture and you learn how little I know. ;-) The subcritical testing is discussed on the NTS tour. The idea came from a NTS scientist (name escapes me), not the politicians as I would have expected.

The subcrital tests certainly produce less pollution. Fortunately for Rachel residents, the radioactive water plume from the previous underground testing is flowing towards Pahrump.
