Not a big deal, but the USAF prefers to use the term DV rather than VIP, well at least when you monitor their comms. DV = distinguished visitor. To delve further into geekdom, a DV would be flown on a SAM flight (special air mission). SAM callsigns are heard often on HF, but I suppose if you live near a military base, you could hear a SAM call on the tower. Jim Bob used to work at Andrews, which I bet has plenty of SAM flights.
