For those who don’t want to watch the entire hour and forty two minute ceremony, or don’t have the time. I have selected a couple of moments that are in my opinion a must watch for Area 51 enthusiasts. While speaking at Brigadier General Matthew Higer’s retirement ceremony yesterday, Major General Evan Dertien; commander of the Air Force Test Center which oversees Area 51. Gave a couple of interesting glimpses during his speech into the role that Higer played at his time at Area 51. The first one from 0:27:23-0:29:33 talks about a block of his career where he had 4 classified assignments in a row. Obviously he doesn’t give away too many specifics, but he definitely sheds some light on that part of Higer’s career a lot better than his biography reads. The second one runs from 0:34:20-0:35:33. Here Dertien highlights Matthew Higer’s time as The Installation Commander of Area 51. At the conclusion of that part he mentions that while leading that organization Higer was the #1 of 63 Colonel’s of that organization. One wonders if that counts Lt. Colonel’s as well. The Bothan Spy
