There's no denying that Chris Gibson was only able to publicly discuss the North Sea sighting after the Royal Observer Corps of which he was a member disbanded in 1991. However, he could only make a preliminary guess at what aircraft he saw refueling from the KC-135 flying through AARA 6A based on his visual instincts back in August 1989 because he and Graeme Winton didn't carry with them a camera which they could have used to take photos of the KC-135 or F-111 while they were on the Galveston Key oil rig in August 1989.

Given that an investigation suggested that a KC-135Q operated out of RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk on the day of the North Sea sighting and that the accompanying F-111s almost certainly belonged to the 48th Tactical Fighter Wing stationed at RAF Lakenheath, I'd be interested to see for certain the names of the crews who piloted the RAF Lakenheath-based F-111s accompanying the KC-135 over the North Sea within AARA 6A to see if they are still living.
