Whatever the reason, it's a known fact that Pratt & Whitney has refurbished close to 30 J-58s on behalf of Lockheed Martin. The most plausible explanation is to use on the SR-72 program because nothing else in the public or grey world could have use for J-58s. But with the combined cycle engine being funded at a high rate and being cited as the SR-72's intended powerplant, thinking that the J-58 will be interim powerplants. And yes, SR-72 will be a big bird, at least as big a ramp footprint as the SR-71. Certainly not the fighter-sized movie prop seen in Top Gun Maverick.
