The official terraserver.com was down for some time, but the http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/default.asp has been around in the interim and still is at the moment. You will still be able to view stuff on the new terraserver, but I'm not sure about downloading for free. In any event, the Area 51 photos on the terraserver have had "clever content" protecting the images from day one, though the initial version was not too clever if you catch my drift. You can find some Area 51 images at: If you right click on the images, there is a copyright notice, which is not as secure as "clever content". Email me for more information regarding this. I suggest terraserver junkies should download a program called USAphotoMaps from: This program lets you suck down terraserver photo after terraserver photo till your PC can't hold any more, and it is much faster than running the terraserver interface. You can then pan around the composite image, and if you have a GPS (and presumably a notebook computer), you can "see yourself" on the photograph if you have downloaded that area.
